It is almost unbelievable, that this time last year vintage was upon us. How years can change! The season has been wet, and the summer, well relatively mild, with the odd hot few days in between. I guess that is Kangaroo Island, and why we make great wine.
I was sneaky this week and ducked out to the False Cape vineyard.
Who you say?
Jamie and Julie Helyar are one of the biggest grape growers on Kangaroo Island, situated on the southern side of the Dudley Peninsula. Julie’s family is from Lake Breeze wines at Langhorne Creek, and Greg her brother makes all of their wines. Jamie is the grape grower, and good at it. The vineyard is healthy, with beautiful bunches of grapes, and bustling with wildlife. Kangaroos, turkeys, and native birds…….it’s nearly time to net! Veraison is here, and this Pinot looks great, I can’t wait!
