The journey began in 1999 when Jamie and Julie Helyar (nee Follett) together with Follett Vineyards established our vineyard on the Dudley Peninsula of Kangaroo Island. We have combined third generation Kangaroo Island farming heritage with third generation grape growers of Langhorne Creek. It is now the largest vineyard on Kangaroo Island. Our False Cape Wine is made by Lake Breeze winemaker Greg Follett (Julie’s brother) and it has won many medals so far, making it one of the best quality and value wines on Kangaroo Island.
1054 Willson River Road, Dudley East, Kangaroo Island, SA 5222
Open by appointment only
False Cape Range of Wines includes the top of the range Captain Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, plus Ships Graveyard Shiraz, Unknown Sailor Cabernet Merlot, Silver Mermaid Sauvignon Blanc, Montebello Pinot Grigio.
Our False Cape Wines can be found at most bottle shops and restaurants around Kangaroo Island.
You can also taste the wine at Lake Breeze Winery at Langhorne Creek (open 10-5pm daily).
We are hoping to have a cellar door outlet soon on Kangaroo Island so keep an eye out for it.
The False Cape Vineyard was selected for its Terra Rosa soils, North Facing slopes and its proximity to the South Coast. False Cape was named after a nearby coastal landmark, it is located in the picturesque Willson River Valley at the East end of Kangaroo Island.
The varieties planted are Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Riesling. The vineyard is grown as naturally and organically as possible. All our reds are dry grown with a lower yield giving great intensity and flavour to the grapes.
False Cape Wines can be enjoyed at Kangaroo Island local restaurants, hotels & bottle shops.
